ARE YOU THROWING YOUR $$ AWAY?

Back

Choosing Your Advertising Medium is CRITICAL. You don’t want your advertising where your target market isn’t!

To help, here are 5 Things You Should Ask Before Purchasing Advertising!

1. When people are ready to buy your product or service, how do they shop?
Do they look in a business directory for a locksmith, or are they more likely to check the yellow pages? You need to advertise where they will look when they are ready to buy.

2. Are your customers primarily local, or do you offer a product or service with a wider draw?
If your appeal is primarily to the local marketplace, your best advertising value is a medium with a strong local coverage. Reaching 60,000 residents of Greater Saint John is of little value if only 1500 of them are close enough to shop at your corner store in Quispamsis.

3. Do you know the media habits of your current customers? Do they read the daily paper regularly? What radio stations do they listen to and what times of day? What local publications do they read and value? Want to find out? Just ask them!

4. What is the value of your dollar for each medium you are considering?
Ask the sales rep for specific details of their listening audience or readership. With regard to print media, what are their circulation numbers, the distribution method, shelf life and number of readers in the area you wish to reach? A “cheaper” price is not a bargain if the ad will not reach your target market.

5. Is a mix of media is appropriate?
In some cases, a mixture of print and radio, plus some sponsorships and special events may be effective. Don’t be fooled by a “bargain” price for a special promotion. If it isn’t reaching your target market, it’s no bargain!
